Another review of Children of Angels

“Based on an ancient myth, Children of Angels is a fantasy story of love that takes for its setting the everlasting complexity of what philosophy calls ‘dualism’.

Essentially a simple equation, dualism has attracted thinkers of all ages at all times. Children of Angels explores the relationship between the feminine and the masculine in two realms, physical and spiritual, within a Biblical context.

Author Lynn Salisbury delivers ideas that could perhaps have only one goal–to show that love, after all, is an all conquering force ever known.” ~ Camilla Stein

A rose by any other name…

I’ve been reading a LOT lately about self-publishing allowing for a glut of “crap” to be sold by Barnes and Noble (nook) and Amazon (Kindle).

I hate to break it to those who buy books, but the marketplace has been glutted with “crap” since print began. As a matter of fact, many people thought a pamphlet penned by Thomas Paine (Common Sense) was a load of horse manure.

Beauty is, and always has been, in the eye of the beholder. No one is being forced to buy a book they have no interest in reading. That being said, there are brand new authors being brought to light every day. Authors who are bright, articulate and talented who have worked hard to get their stories out and want them to be read.

I’m not at all sure the medium of delivery is what matters. What matters is that someone (or many someones) have the opportunity to partake of the author’s words – to learn, to feel, to escape, to enjoy.

Whether self-published, published by a small press or a major house, in digital or print, I will tell you the same thing I tell my kids regarding new foods. “How will you ever know if you like it if you don’t try it?”

Review – Dream House – A ghost story

Dream House by Jim Melvin“In Jim Melvin’s Dream House – A Ghost Story, temptations of the flesh are only outdone by temptations of the spirit. In what should be the best time of his life, the main character is thrown into situations that would tempt the strongest of men, both physically and spiritually. Dream House takes the reader on an adventure of supernatural thrills and begs the question – Could you have resisted?

Dream House is a fast paced horror/supernatural thriller that keeps the reader engaged. You may be able to put this book down before you’re finished, but you won’t be able to leave it for long. The draw to continue reading from beginning to end is a powerful testament to Melvin’s style of writing. One that compels the reader to not only feel what the characters are feeling, but to be tempted right along with them.

In the end love and forgiveness win the day, but temptation still exists. Melvin subtly still poses the question – Could you have resisted? The temptations of the book? Maybe. I would hope so. The temptation to continue reading the book without being able to put it down? This reader fell to that temptation and was very glad she did.” – Lynn Salisbury, author of Children of Angels
